Cycling is a complicated and beautiful sport of some of the toughest individuals on the planet.
But if you don’t understand it, cycling can seem boring. Watching riders roll for hundreds of miles a day, wondering why they’re not riding faster, wondering what all the different colors and jerseys and annotations mean – it can be confusing!
I made this video to explain some of the basics of a multi-day stage race, such as the Tour de France or the Tour of California.
Dear cycling friends: Share this with the people who don’t understand your cycling obsession. They may be trying to stage an intervention, but don’t let them win. Get them to join you instead!
Dear non-cycling friends: I hope you gain enough of an understanding of the race to enjoy following it on TV or in person! It really is chess on wheels.
